      <image:title>Techniques - Strappos</image:title>
<image:caption>These are one-of-a-kind pieces, acrylic monotypes, sometimes known by the Italian name strappo. Each print is an experiment that combines elements of surprise with a very deliberate process. It is an adaptation of restoration techniques for fresco painting. Strappo involves painting the design on a glass plate with acrylics, preserving the work with layers of gesso, adhering it to paper with heavy weights, and when dry, stripping it off the glass. It can integrate collage elements and I sometimes use other prints, drawings, or photographic images and rework them or place them in a different context. For the past few years I have been a member of the printmaking studio Atelier Meridian (ateliermeridian.com). I was working there regularly until the pandemic, and returned there for relief printmaking starting in April 2021 Many thanks to Jane Pagliarulo for providing this photograph.</image:caption>
